a girls best friend...

When I arrived home on Friday night, I was greeted by red rose petals ascending my stairs. When I reached the top,  there was a trail of candles leading through my living room out into my bedroom -- there were petals everywhere and it was beautiful. The row of candles gave my brick wall a delicate glow as I followed them into my room. Music played in the background as I walked around the corner, and there Anthony was: standing in my window...

We exchanged hellos as I crossed the room to embrace him.  I’m pretty sure that I thanked him for putting such lovely decorations around my apartment (I was completely blown away). I had previously asked Anthony if we could go out to Boston Market for dinner, so I said that I needed to get a shower to get ready.  He asked me to wait a minute and told me to close my eyes ("keep them closed, keep them closed... ok").

I opened my eyes to see him holding a beautiful diamond ring. "Marry me?" He asked.  I hugged him again (with joyful tears welling up in my eyes)... "Yes."

By the way, "a girl’s best friend" is not the diamond (as lovely as it may be), it’s him.

The rest of the weekend was really amazing, too. Anthony took me to the Melting Pot in Station Square, which is a four-course dinner comprised completely of fondue! I’m not sure that I’m a huge fan of fondue for dinner foods, but I sure did enjoy the dessert!  It’s kind of funny, because I called Anthony earlier in the day to ask if we could go to Boston Market (since I didn’t feel like cooking). My plan was to come home from work, go for a run, then get showered and a little dressed up so that we could go out and celebrate the launch of Anthony’s web business, Encodable Industries and receiving a rough draft of the paper from the research I conducted at Johnson and Johnson PRD. It turns out we had a little bit more to celebrate.

We made some wedding plans, but not a whole lot is set in stone yet. We’re hoping to have a small wedding with mostly family and a few close friends in the Fall! We’re both so excited!

Saturday we went out to Beechview to look at apartments, where I completely fell in love with a two story duplex on Shadycrest Drive (we’re not shady, we’re just on the crest of shady). The house is gorgeous. It’s two levels, with two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, a living room, small dining room, and kitchen downstairs, and a basement. The only problem is that there are no appliances, so we need to look into purchasing some. It’s in a cute little neighborhood and has fenced-in backyard with beautiful green grass, and a nice driveway in the front. The most amazing part is that it’s in our price range, and the couple has agreed to hold it for us until I can move in mid-July. We were approved to live there yesterday! : ) Life is so amazing and I am so thankful for the multitude of blessings that we’ve already experienced in our relationship.

The Melting Pot was a lovely restaurant.  The first course was cheese fondue with bread chunks, apple slices, and vegetables.  I think this had potential, but the fondue was beer-based and kinda gross.  The second course was a salad which, again, would have been really good, except there was gorgonzola cheese in it.  I had never eaten that before, but it is now a strong contender for my least favorite food of all time.  I can’t believe any sane person actually likes this, and had I known it was a blue cheese I never would have gotten it.

I loved the desert fondue as much as Kim did -- this was definitely superb.  I also really liked the third course, which was the main one.  There were three choices and we chose the meat one, so we got chunks of raw pork, chicken, beef filet, and teriyaki beef filet, which we cooked in a fondue that was some kind of broth.
