Mom and I had some time to kill on our last day of driving, so we visited Buffalo Bill Cody’s Fort in North Platte, and stopped at various places to take Heidi for walks. Of these places, the most memorable was Barr Lake, near Denver Colorado. The loop around Barr Lake (which is nestled in a nature preserve) is about 8 miles, but we only walked a short distance due to time constraints. I’ll post photos when we get back home.
We were very surprised to see an uncontrolled wild fire blazing about 100 miles outside of Denver. Several off ramps were closed & we drove through a great plume of smoke, but there didn’t appear to be much activity in the way of controlling the fire.
We met Aunt Nancy and Uncle Robert for dinner at a Ruby Tuesdays in Denver, then picked Anthony up at the Airport (yay!) and set out for Steamboat around 9pm. By the time we got into town (around 2:00 in the morning) we were all whooped, so we just went to bed.
After grocery shopping & helping mom to prepare for the arrival of Travis, Megan, and Xander on Tuesday morning, Anthony, Heidi, and I set out for a hike along Mad Creek. About two miles into the hike, we got caught in a huge thunderstorm and had to take cover under a tree (this was a first for me!) It was quite the adventure.
Anthony is just finishing up some work & then we plan to set out for a bike ride or hike in the mountains. : ) I love Steamboat & wish we could stay longer.
Much love to everyone at home!
