On our third sightseeing day in California, we visited San Francisco. It was a great day; we took the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) into the city and spent the day walking around. We started at Pier 1 & walked up to Pier 39, home of many little stores, restaurants, and many sun-bathing sea lions. From Pier 39, you can see Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, and most of the City.
From here, we walked through Fisherman's wharf & up to Ghirardelli Square. There was a small beach in front of Ghirardelli Square & we were surprised to see several people swimming in the Bay! We had lunch at a diner, checked out some of the local stores, & ate Ghirardelli ice cream (really, really good).
We then walked up to Lombard Street, the most crooked street in America. Unfortunately, I didn't get any good photos of this. It was really steep & windy; next time we'll have to drive down it! From here, we walked to Coit Tower. We probably walked between 4 -5 miles & saw quite a bit of the city.
